Lebanon is experiencing ongoing conflict. In the past week, more than 3,000 civilians have been injured, 60 lives lost, and many critically injured. Hospitals are not able to cope with the number of injured. Supplies are low. Not enough beds, doctors, medical supplies. This coupled with the ongoing economic crisis has left Lebanon in a critical state.
Yemen is experiencing flash flooding due to torrential rains over the past few weeks. More than 268,000 people have been affected, leaving many without shelter and basic necessities, according to UN reports. The latest news has reported about 100 deaths, and 600 injured. Hundreds of people have been displaced from their homes. Entire communities find themselves under high levels of flood water. Seven hospitals have been completely destroyed, leaving the population with extremely limited medical care. Three schools have been completely destroyed, along with major roads and public infrastructure that have been severely damaged, some beyond repair. Among the hardest hit are the governorates of Al Hodeidah, Hajjah, Marib, Sa’dah, and Taiz.
Flash flooding has devastated parts of northeastern and southeastern Bangladesh and parts of Myanmar. Water levels have risen in major rivers in these regions causing widespread flooding. Extensive damage to vital infrastructure, including roads, farmland, water infrastructure, and shelters, have been reported. These floods have affected more than 4 million people. This includes 2 million women – 50,000 of which are pregnant and lactating, 1.5 million children, and over 300,000 elderly people.
